Unfortunately it’s not always possible to utilize our RV all year, but even if we can, it’s important to winterize your vehicle! Our team at Mericle RV is here to be a resource for all your RV needs, so we’ve put together a quick list of ways to winterize your RV for the upcoming season.

Can You Winterize an RV Yourself?

Winterizing your RV isn't difficult, but it does require some basic knowledge of how your RV works and what needs to be done to keep it running smoothly.

Checklist

Below are some of the basic ways you can complete winterization for your RV to protect it from colder weather.

1. Check your owner's manual for specific instructions on winterizing your RV. Your specific model and manufacturer may have special requirements.

2. Drain all the water from your RV's fresh water tank and then add RV antifreeze to the tank. This will prevent the water lines from freezing and bursting during the winter.

3. Empty all the water from your RV's gray water and black water tanks. This will prevent septic issues and make your next trip much easier.

4. Disconnect your RV's battery and store it in a safe, dry place. This will prevent it from freezing and damaging the electrical system.

5. Cover your RV's air conditioner with a tarp or piece of plywood to protect it from the elements.

6. Put all of your RV's food away and clean out the fridge and freezer to prevent mold and mildew from forming. You might also want to remove any personal belongings.

7. Finally, make sure you have a good insurance policy in place in case something does go wrong during the winter months.
