While RVs often come with a variety of amenities to help keep passengers cool, the hot summer sun is a force to be reckoned with. Even with your A/C on blast, you may not be able to beat the heat, or you could end up spending your entire vacation directly in front of the fan. However, to ensure this doesn’t happen to you, we here at Mericle RV have written up a number of helpful tips on how to stay cool in your RV, even when temperatures reach their peak.

Parking

The first step takes little to no effort: you simply have to park differently. Ideally, you should try to find a tree to park under. If you can find one that shades your RV during the afternoon sun, that would be ideal. However, regardless of whether or not you can find a tree, orientation is important too. Park so the side with more windows faces away from the afternoon sun. This will prevent the harshest sun rays, the main culprits of intense interior warmth, from filtering into your living area.

Block Sunlight

Now that you’ve got your RV parked right, you need to be smart with your windows. Keep the side with direct exposure to sunlight shut, and open windows on the opposing side. Curtains unfortunately don’t do a great job blocking sun rays, so it’s a good idea to invest in some reflective bubble insulation. These sheets lie across the inside of the windows, shooting light back away from your travel trailer, instead of letting it be absorbed by the blinds.

Opt for LEDs

Lights are a small thing that add up pretty quickly. Fluorescent and incandescent bulbs generate quite a bit of heat. Thankfully, there’s an alternative: LED lights. These are initially more expensive, but they last much longer, making them cheaper in the long run. And of course, since they have smaller bulbs, they don’t produce nearly as much heat as larger lights. This makes a huge difference, considering there are dozens of light bulbs throughout your RV.
